Algarve Resort Makes Debut in Global Top 100 List
Quinta do Lago has been included in GOLF.com's Top 100 Resorts in the World for the first time, recognizing its three championship courses, accommodation, and overall visitor experience. The Algarve resort, founded in 1972, has previously been named Europe's Best Golf Venue for three consecutive years. Its South Course has hosted the Portuguese Open eight times, and the North Course underwent a major redesign in 2014.
Quinta do Lago spans 2,000 acres inside the Ria Formosa Natural Park, with its three layouts—South, North, and Laranjal—supported by coaching facilities run by Paul McGinley and TaylorMade. The South Course has hosted the Portuguese Open eight times, while the North Course reopened in 2014 after a €9.6 million redesign led by architect Beau Welling and McGinley.
The resort also operates 14 bars and restaurants, plus The Campus sports and wellness hub. Its junior programme runs from summer camps through the Paul McGinley Junior Cup and the Justin Rose Telegraph Junior Golf Championship final. Recent honours include World Golf Awards' Europe's Best Golf Venue and World Travel Awards' Portugal's Leading Resort.
This ranking may boost Quinta do Lago's visibility among American golfers, potentially increasing international tourism to the Algarve and supporting the local economy through visitor spending on accommodation, dining, and services. It could also raise competitive pressure on other European resorts to elevate their facilities, while travellers may benefit from a broader range of high-quality golf destinations when planning trips.
