Nishimura Breaks Through for Maiden LPGA Win in Arkansas
Yuna Nishimura claimed her first LPGA Tour victory at the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship, finishing at 21-under. She opened with two rounds of 63 to take a five-shot lead and closed with a 66 to win by five. Aki Iwai, Chanettee Wannasaen and In Gee Chun shared second at 16-under.
Nishimura led the Arkansas event from her first round to her last, posting 192 across three rounds at Pinnacle Country Club. Her pair of 63s matched the tournament's best 36-hole mark and built a five-stroke cushion. In the final round she carded 66, mixing five birdies, two bogeys and an eagle on the 14th.
Before this week, she had reached weekend play six times in 15 LPGA starts and had finished third at this venue in 2023. Her victory made her the third Japanese champion of this tournament, after Ai Miyazato and Nasa Hataoka, and she credited Miyazato as a lifelong inspiration and source of support.
Nishimura's breakthrough may give Japanese golf fans and aspiring players a visible example of persistence after missed cuts. Her first LPGA title could draw more attention to women's golf in Japan and Arkansas, potentially boosting event interest and sponsorship.
