Devils Add Goaltender Remi Poirier via Waivers
New Jersey claimed goalie Remi Poirier off waivers from Dallas on Sept. 27. Poirier was a 2020 sixth-round pick who developed in the Stars system and spent recent seasons in the AHL, including 52 games in 2025-26. He has not yet played in the NHL and could make his debut with the Devils, who also waived David Rittich.
Poirier was drafted by Dallas in the sixth round in 2020 and stayed in the QMJHL for two more seasons. In 2022-23 he split time between the ECHL’s Idaho Steelheads (23 games) and AHL’s Texas Stars (16).
He then became a full-time AHL netminder: 38 games in 2023-24 (17-16-4), 31 in 2024-25 (17-11-1), and 52 in 2025-26 (27-19-6). New Jersey also waived David Rittich after signing him to a one-year deal.
This roster move may matter most to Devils fans and Poirier, whose long-awaited NHL chance could affect his career trajectory. It could also influence Utica’s goaltending depth and create competition for Jake Allen and Nico Daws. Beyond hockey, such waiver claims are minor sports news, though they may briefly engage local fans and fantasy players.
