Dortmund's Schlotterbeck sidelined for Germany's October internationals

Nico Schlotterbeck will miss Germany's October Nations League fixtures against Serbia and Greece after injuring ligaments in his right ankle during training on Wednesday, the DFB has said. The Borussia Dortmund centre-back had played all of Jürgen Klopp's first match in charge, a 1-1 draw in the Netherlands, before sitting out the 1-0 home loss to Greece. Dortmund, currently leading the early Bundesliga table, return to league action against Werder Bremen on 9 October, with no word yet on a replacement or recovery time.
The German federation said Schlotterbeck damaged ligaments in his right ankle during a Wednesday training session. That rules him out of the national team's next two Nations League matches, against Serbia and Greece.
The centre-back had completed all 90 minutes in Jürgen Klopp's opening game as Germany coach, a 1-1 draw in the Netherlands. He then missed the 1-0 home defeat by Greece. The injury follows a left-ankle ligament problem that had kept him out late in Germany's 2026 World Cup run and Dortmund's first two Bundesliga games of 2026/27. Dortmund lead the early table and host Werder Bremen on 9 October.
Schlotterbeck's absence may unsettle Dortmund's early-season rhythm and reduce Germany's defensive options for the October Nations League
