Flyers and Kraken Exchange Young Forwards Kaplan, Goyette

Philadelphia sent winger Devin Kaplan to Seattle and received center David Goyette in return. Both players are 22 and were chosen in the 2022 NHL Draft, with Goyette going 61st overall and Kaplan 69th. Goyette is expected to join the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, while Kaplan heads to the Kraken organization after playing in the AHL.
Philadelphia and Seattle completed a one-for-one swap of 22-year-old forwards. Goyette, selected 61st in 2022, had 282 junior points with Sudbury and led the OHL in 2023-24, but has 28 points in 108 AHL games and no NHL appearances. He also served a 20-game AHL suspension last season.
Kaplan, taken 69th, is a 6-foot-3 winger. After three Boston University seasons, he recorded five goals and 13 points in 49 AHL games, plus one NHL game with Philadelphia. He will join Seattle's organization as its AHL season begins Friday.
This minor-league trade may matter most to the two players, their families, and the Flyers/Kraken farm systems. Philadelphia could gain a center with junior scoring pedigree for Lehigh Valley; Seattle may add size and physicality. Fans might see it as depth move, not immediate NHL impact. It may also affect AHL roster competition and development opportunities.
