The bond traces to a 2005/06 UEFA Cup first-round pairing. Copenhagen supporters lacked tape for a planned display in Hamburg; HSV fans assisted, and the gesture was returned when Germans traveled to Denmark. Rafael van der Vaart's stoppage-time penalty then sent Hamburg through 2-1 on aggregate.
Ties have grown since. Hamburg has fielded 14 Danes, among them Lars Bastrup and Thomas Gravesen, and trained in Helsingør in July. The clubs, 335 kilometres apart, also met in a 2025 friendly at Parken, where 8,000 HSV followers watched a 1-0 loss. Sunday's late goals from Kofi Amoako and Nicolai Remberg sealed a 2-0 win.
