Will Wade's LSU adds highly ranked 2027 guard King Gibson
LSU received a commitment from 2027 combo guard King Gibson, the top player at his position. The 6-foot-4 Greensboro, North Carolina native chose the Tigers over Louisville, Arkansas, and Providence. It marks the highest-ranked high school commitment of Will Wade's coaching career, and Gibson joins Ahmad Hudson in the class.
Gibson, a 6-foot-4 guard from Greensboro, N.C., is rated No. 14 nationally and No. 1 among combo guards. He picked LSU over Louisville, Arkansas and Providence. No previous Wade recruit ranked this high. He attends SPIRE Academy in Ohio, where he averaged 15 points, 3.7 assists and 3.4 rebounds in Nike EYBL Scholastic play.
He is regarded as an efficient perimeter scorer who made more than 40% of his three-point attempts and can finish inside. He joins Ahmad Hudson, a top-five center and LSU football commit. LSU is also pursuing top-10 guard Reese Alston.
This commitment may energize LSU fans and boost program momentum, while increasing attention on Gibson and his family. It could affect other recruits considering LSU, as well as competitors like Louisville and Arkansas. For students and local businesses around Baton Rouge, high-profile athletics success may bring visibility and economic activity. The broader impact remains uncertain, since recruiting outcomes do not guarantee team success or social change.
