Oilers Reportedly Considering Bruins' Eyssimont for Forward Depth
Edmonton is reportedly considering Bruins forward Michael Eyssimont as a depth addition amid multiple injuries up front. Eyssimont cleared waivers Monday and was assigned to AHL Providence after Boston needed room for Matthew Poitras. The Oilers would prefer to trade a spare defenseman, according to Elliotte Friedman.
Edmonton has five forwards unavailable three games into the season, including Zach Hyman for roughly two weeks, plus Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Jason Dickinson, Mattias Janmark and Matt Savoie. That injury crunch has the club using long-term injured reserve and searching for affordable forward help.
Michael Eyssimont, 30, is in the second season of a contract with a $1.45 million cap charge. He has 74 points and 261 penalty minutes across 269 NHL appearances, and last year he posted 18 points, including eight goals, over 56 contests for Boston. He passed through waivers Monday and went to AHL Providence.
If completed, this depth move could mainly affect the two clubs’ rosters and their fan bases. Edmonton may gain short-term forward insurance during an injury wave, while Boston could add a defenseman or clear a contract. Eyssimont’s career stability and AHL Providence’s lineup may also shift. For broader audiences, the impact likely remains limited to hockey followers and local markets.
