WorldSBK Heads to Estoril as Bulega Chases Single-Season Win Record

The MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship will visit Circuito Estoril from October 9-11 for the penultimate 2026 round. Newly crowned champion Nicolo Bulega leads the standings and is one victory away from matching Alvaro Bautista's single-season record of 27 wins. Miguel Oliveira will race at home in Portugal, while the battle for third in the championship remains active.
Estoril will stage the 2026 WorldSBK season’s penultimate event from 9–11 October. Nicolo Bulega, who has already secured the crown, arrives with 602 points, 133 clear of Ducati teammate Iker Lecuona, and has 26 wins this year—one fewer than Alvaro Bautista’s 2023 single-season benchmark of 27. Ducati also needs one more victory to equal its 35-race winning sequence from 2003–04.
Miguel Oliveira, 12th on 109 points, races at home for the second time in 2026. Behind the settled top two, Yari Montella leads Alex Lowes by 43 points for third, while Sam Lowes trails his brother by seven. Montella and Sam Lowes are also contesting the Independent Rider title.
The Estoril round may draw increased attention from Portuguese fans, especially with Miguel Oliveira racing at home, potentially boosting local hospitality and tourism around the circuit. Bulega’s record chase could lift broadcast and social-media engagement, benefiting WorldSBK’s visibility and sponsors. For teams and riders, the fight for third and Independent Rider honors may shape contracts, funding, and fan support into 2027.
