Kane Reunites With Former Blackhawks Teammates Before Chicago Home Opener

Patrick Kane played his first home game for Chicago since February 2023 when the Blackhawks hosted St. Louis. Former teammates Jonathan Toews and Niklas Hjalmarsson visited him at the practice facility before the game. Kane returned to Chicago in July on a two-year, $16 million contract after spending three seasons with Detroit.
Kane’s return to the United Center marks his first home appearance in a Blackhawks uniform since Feb. 21, 2023, a gap of 1,324 days. Chicago dealt him to New York shortly afterward, and he played three seasons in Detroit before agreeing to a two-year, $16 million deal in July.
Before the St. Louis game, Jonathan Toews and Niklas Hjalmarsson met Kane at the practice rink. The trio began their NHL careers with Chicago in 2007-08 and shared Cup wins in 2010, 2013 and 2015. Toews also spoke with Connor Bedard, who is recovering from July shoulder surgery.
Kane’s homecoming could give Blackhawks fans a nostalgic lift, especially those who followed the 2010s title teams. The presence of Toews and Hjalmarsson may strengthen a sense of continuity for the organization and its supporters. For younger players like Bedard, observing that history could shape team culture. A winless start may temper excitement, but the event may still draw attention to Chicago hockey and local businesses around the United Center.
