Hibernian sign former Rangers winger Matondo until end of season
Rabbi Matondo has joined Hibernian on a contract until the end of the season, with an option for another year. The Wales winger had been on trial at Easter Road and becomes Marink Reedijk's first signing as manager. Matondo previously played for Rangers and left Norwegian club Brann in August.
Matondo, a 26-year-old Wales international, has signed at Easter Road through the season’s close, with Hibs holding an extra-year option. He arrives after a trial and becomes Marink Reedijk’s first recruit since the manager took over from David Gray last month.
The former Rangers wide player spent almost four years at Ibrox and had a loan at Hannover. He later had a five-month stint with Brann, leaving in August. His earlier clubs include Schalke, Stoke and Cercle Brugge. He has 15 Wales caps and one goal, scored in 2025 against Kazakhstan.
The move may give Hibernian supporters a new wide option to watch and could shape early expectations around Marink Reedijk’s tenure. It might also raise Matondo’s visibility for future Wales selection and add interest to Scottish Premiership coverage. For fans and local businesses near Easter Road, improved results or attendances could bring modest community benefits, though any social or economic effect is likely limited and gradual.
