Panthers waive Entwistle with AHL assignment possible
Florida put forward MacKenzie Entwistle on waivers Wednesday. If he clears, the Panthers can assign him to AHL Charlotte. Entwistle opened the season on the injured/non-roster list and has not appeared in the NHL since 2023-24.
Entwistle, 27, was placed on waivers Wednesday by Florida, according to Elliotte Friedman. If he goes unclaimed Thursday, the Panthers can send him to AHL Charlotte. He began 2026-27 on the injured/non-roster list and missed camp because of an undisclosed injury.
He has not played NHL hockey since 2023-24 with Chicago. After joining Florida in summer 2024, he stayed in the AHL. Injuries held him to seven games in 2024-25, though he appeared during Charlotte's Calder Cup Final run. Last season he recorded five goals and 11 points in 49 games.
This waiver decision could affect Entwistle's career and earnings, as a two-way deal means an AHL assignment may reduce his salary. It may also shape Charlotte's lineup and give other NHL clubs a low-cost depth option. Panthers and Checkers fans could see roster ripple effects, while the player's family and teammates may face uncertainty. The broader impact is likely limited to the hockey community.
