Morrissey Leaves Jets' Win With Upper-Body Injury After Board Crash

Josh Morrissey exited Winnipeg's victory over Colorado after missing a check on T.J. Hughes and hitting the boards late in the first period. The Jets said he had an upper-body injury and would not return, and coach Scott Arniel said the team would evaluate him the next day. Morrissey played one shift in the second period before leaving for good, finishing with 9:32 of ice time.
Morrissey was hurt late in the opening period when he tried to check Colorado’s T.J. Hughes near the boards. Hughes avoided contact, sending Morrissey into the wall; he appeared to hurt his right hand or wrist and skated off favoring it. Winnipeg ruled him out for the rest of its 3-2 victory.
After one second-period shift, he was done, finishing with 9:32 on ice, one shot and one blocked shot. Arniel said the club would examine him the following day. Morrissey, 31, had three assists in four games and has been a high-minute, high-scoring defenseman.
Should Morrissey miss games, Winnipeg’s defense and power play could shift, affecting teammates, coaches, and fans tracking the season. His absence may also renew discussion about board-contact safety, though one injury is unlikely to change rules by itself. If the Jets struggle without him, local media attention and fan engagement could rise or fall accordingly.
