Canterbury Golf Club Unveils Chough-Branded Collection for 2027 Centenary

Canterbury Golf Club in Kent has introduced a collection of clothing and accessories featuring its red-and-black chough logo. The emblem, taken from the City of Canterbury's crest, has been used since the club was founded in 1927. The launch comes before the club's centenary in 2027, and its course was designed by Harry Colt.
The Kent club’s new line uses a red-and-black chough that has appeared on its badge since 1927. The bird comes from Canterbury’s civic crest, which also includes three leopards, and was chosen by the founders to reflect the club’s link to the cathedral city. The launch precedes its 2027 centenary.
Canterbury’s course was routed by Harry Colt, whose portfolio includes Wentworth, Sunningdale, Rye and Camberley Heath. The par-71 layout runs 6,272 yards over rolling terrain, with oaks and silver birches giving parkland feel and occasional gorse and broom. Top 100 Golf Courses places it 13th in Kent, and a Toptracer range is available.
The centenary merchandise may strengthen members’ and local residents’ sense of connection to Canterbury’s civic heritage, while visiting golfers could see the club as a distinctive destination. Sales might support the club’s profile and pro shop, though broader societal effects are likely modest. It may also encourage other clubs to use local symbols and stories in their branding.
