Crocker targets world title return after first defeat

Lewis Crocker is preparing to return to the ring against Owen Cooper in Belfast on 19 December. He lost his IBF welterweight title to Liam Paro by split decision in June. Crocker says the defeat has motivated him to become a two-time world champion.
Crocker, 29, won the IBF welterweight belt in September at Windsor Park, Belfast, against Paddy Donovan. His first defence came in Brisbane, where judges scored 115-113 for Liam Paro, leaving Crocker 22-1. He returns on 19 December at Belfast's O2 against Owen Cooper, a 26-year-old former English champion with a 12-2 record.
The bout sits on the Anthony Cacace versus Nick Ball super-featherweight title card. Crocker, a Matchroom fighter, appears on a Queensberry show. Other welterweight champions include Ryan Garcia, Teofimo Lopez and Devin Haney. Paddy Donovan is positioned to face Paro.
Crocker's homecoming could give Belfast boxing fans a boost and may draw attention to the city's fight scene. A high-profile card featuring local and international names might increase ticket demand and media interest, benefiting venues, hospitality and promoters. For younger athletes, his comeback after defeat may illustrate resilience. The cross-promotional aspect may signal more flexible matchmaking, potentially giving fighters broader opportunities.
