Hockey Fights Cancer Launches 28th Season With $100,000 Research Donation

The NHL, NHLPA and V Foundation will invest $100,000 in cancer research as Hockey Fights Cancer begins its 28th season. The campaign raised $9.1 million last season and includes a Winter Classic sweepstakes with Josh Manson and Clayton Keller. The initiative will feature themed broadcasts, in-game awareness nights and a November league-wide celebration.
Hockey Fights Cancer begins its 28th year with a $100,000 research commitment from the NHL, NHLPA and V Foundation during Frozen Frenzy. All 32 clubs are scheduled tonight across ESPN2, Disney+ and the ESPN App in the U.S., with fan donations adding to that amount.
Last season’s effort generated $9.1 million, including more than $4.6 million for research through the V Foundation; 42 grants have reached 22 NHL markets over three seasons. The Winter Face-Off sweepstakes, linked to the 2027 Winter Classic, features Josh Manson and Clayton Keller, whose families have been affected by cancer.
The campaign may raise public awareness and research funds, potentially benefiting patients, survivors, families, and clinicians. Fans could be encouraged to donate or join sweepstakes, while NHL clubs and sponsors may strengthen community ties. League-wide broadcasts and awareness nights may reach broad audiences, possibly normalizing conversations about cancer and support. It could also provide emotional recognition for those personally touched by the disease.
