Red Wings' Horcoff Says He Won't Trade Edvinsson, Hopes to Sign Him

Interim Red Wings general manager Shawn Horcoff said he has no interest in trading unsigned defenseman Simon Edvinsson and wants to sign him. Horcoff also said there is no new information on Dylan Larkin's trade request. Detroit has started the season with a 1-3-2 record.
Shawn Horcoff, Detroit's interim GM, told reporters Wednesday that trading Simon Edvinsson is not under consideration and that the club's aim is to re-sign the unsigned defenseman. Horcoff said he remains in regular contact with Edvinsson's representative, though no agreement exists. The 23-year-old restricted free agent, previously on a three-year entry-level contract, returned to Sweden before the season.
Detroit also has no fresh update on Dylan Larkin, who requested a trade during the summer and has five years remaining on his contract. The Red Wings are 1-3-2, have signed Alex DeBrincat to a seven-year, $91 million extension, and hold over $17 million in cap space. They host Philadelphia on Thursday.
For Detroit fans and the local hockey community, the stance on Edvinsson may shape near-term expectations and ticket interest, while a prolonged contract impasse could affect teammates, arena staff, and businesses tied to game nights. Larkin's unresolved request may add uncertainty for fans and franchise stakeholders. How the club handles these situations could influence perceptions of organizational stability, though on-ice results and eventual signings may ultimately determine impact.
