Larkin trade held up by destination and cap constraints

Dylan Larkin's trade request from Detroit remains unresolved, with his acceptable destination list growing from three teams to eight or nine. David Pagnotta said many of those teams lack cap space, making it difficult to construct a deal unless Larkin expands his list further. Pagnotta also reported that Montreal is ready to acquire Larkin if he and his family approve, but they have not agreed so far.
Dylan Larkin has sought a move from Detroit since June, initially naming Vegas, Florida and Minnesota as acceptable destinations. That list has since grown to eight or nine clubs, but no trade has materialized. On Daily Faceoff LIVE, David Pagnotta explained that many of those teams lack the cap room needed to absorb Larkin’s $8.7 million hit. Detroit would also need a package attractive enough to justify a deal, and the money would still have to be made to work.
Pagnotta added Montreal is prepared to act if Larkin and his family approve, though they have not. Washington, Colorado and Minnesota were cited among clubs without cap space.
The unresolved Larkin situation could affect Red Wings fans, teammates and Montreal supporters, who may follow each new report with hope or frustration. It may also shape how players and agents view trade requests and salary-cap constraints. Until a resolution comes, ongoing speculation could keep media attention high and leave both franchises planning around uncertainty.
