Adam Klapka Emerging as Physical Depth Option for Flames
Adam Klapka has recorded two goals, two fights, and 37 penalty minutes in six games for Calgary this season. The 6-foot-8 forward is tracking to surpass his previous best of six goals and gives the Flames a physical presence. He went undrafted and played in Czechia and the USHL before signing with Calgary in 2022.
Klapka grew up in Prague and came through HC Slavia Praha’s youth setup before a USHL stint with Tri-City. After going undrafted, he played professionally for Bílí Tygři Liberec, then signed with Calgary on May 16, 2022.
With the Wranglers, he developed from 13 goals in 60 games to 21 goals and 46 points in 65 games. His NHL work earned extensions, and last season he posted six goals, 18 points, and 112 penalty minutes. This year he has 21 hits, second on the team behind Martin Pospisil.
Klapka’s physical play could affect Flames teammates, opponents, and fans by adding momentum, protection, and entertainment. His undrafted route from Czechia and the USHL may offer a hopeful example for overlooked young players. In Calgary, his fights and hits might shape fan engagement and game atmosphere, though any broader social impact would likely remain modest and tied to hockey culture.
