Haas signs Rafael Câmara for 2027 F1 season

Haas has confirmed that Rafael Câmara will join the team on a multi-year deal beginning in 2027. The Brazilian, a Ferrari Driver Academy member, currently leads the Formula 2 standings and won the Formula 3 title last year. He takes a seat that opened after Esteban Ocon said he would not return.
Haas ended weeks of uncertainty by announcing Câmara on a multi-year agreement. The Brazilian, part of Ferrari’s driver academy, won the F3 championship last season and currently tops the F2 table with 207 points. He has three victories this year, most recently in Azerbaijan, and has two race weekends left.
Before the deal, Câmara tested Haas’s VF-25 in Portugal during an August TPC session at Portimão. Team principal Ayao Komatsu praised his speed and adaptability, while Câmara thanked Ferrari’s academy, Gene Haas, Komatsu, and his family. The seat became available after Esteban Ocon said he would leave.
Câmara’s promotion may give Brazilian F1 fans a new focus and could draw more attention to junior-series pathways. Haas, meanwhile, may gain a younger driver profile and renewed commercial interest, especially in Brazil. For aspiring racers, the move could reinforce that academy support and lower-formula results can open top-tier opportunities. The team’s results and how Câmara adapts could shape whether this becomes a lasting boost for its audience and partners.
