Hartford gives Reimer a PTO amid Rangers' goaltending injuries

The Hartford Wolf Pack signed veteran goaltender James Reimer to a professional tryout agreement. The Rangers are without Joonas Korpisalo and Igor Shesterkin because of lower-body injuries, leaving Dylan Garand to start recent games. Reimer, 38, posted a 7-4-2 record with an .886 save percentage and a 2.42 goals-against average in 14 appearances for Ottawa last season.
Hartford’s PTO gives Reimer a chance to add veteran depth while New York copes without Korpisalo, who went on injured reserve Oct. 1, and Shesterkin, ruled out for the season Oct. 10, both with lower-body injuries. Dylan Garand, 24, has started the Rangers’ past two games.
Reimer, 38, appeared 14 times for Ottawa last season, starting 13, with a 7-4-2 mark, .886 save percentage and 2.42 GAA. Toronto drafted him in 2006’s fourth round; he debuted in 2010-11 and has played 16 NHL seasons for eight clubs, totaling 539 appearances, 492 starts and a 232-191-67 record.
The move may matter most to Rangers and Wolf Pack followers, who could see a veteran stabilize a depleted crease and keep the NHL club competitive. It may also give Reimer another chance to extend his career, while younger goalies like Garand face added pressure. For the broader hockey audience, it may serve as a reminder of how quickly injuries can reshape a season and create opportunities.
