Dallas gets Wyatt Johnston back for matchup with Chicago
Wyatt Johnston will return to Dallas's lineup against Chicago after missing two games because of illness. The 23-year-old center had four assists and 11 shots in his first five games before the absence. Dallas remains without Matt Duchene and Oskar Bäck due to injuries.
Dallas will insert Wyatt Johnston back into its forward group Saturday in Chicago. The 23-year-old center had been sidelined for two games by illness. In his first five appearances this season, he recorded four assists, 11 shots, four blocked shots and three hits.
Johnston had previously appeared in 333 consecutive NHL contests, producing 134 goals, 133 assists and 267 points. Dallas is still without Matt Duchene (core) and Oskar Bäck (finger). Colin Blackwell, Joel Kiviranta, Arttu Hyry and Justin Hryckowian have helped fill in; coach Glen Gulutzan praised their energy after a shootout win over Colorado. A six-game homestand begins Tuesday versus Boston.
Johnston’s return may strengthen Dallas’s attack and fan engagement for the Chicago game, while recent absences show how illness and injuries can test roster depth. Teammates, coaches, and supporters could feel short-term relief; opponents may face a tougher lineup. Broader audiences may see how athlete availability shapes sports entertainment and local game-day activity, though any societal effects are likely limited and temporary.
