Yin Rallies to Another Buick LPGA Shanghai Victory
Ruoning Yin won the Buick LPGA Shanghai by one stroke over Hye-Jin Choi. Yin shot a final-round 68 at Sheshan Golf Club, while Choi, who led after 54 holes, carded a 71. The win was Yin's seventh LPGA Tour title and her second in a row, following her 2024 victory at the same event.
Yin’s victory marked her second Buick LPGA Shanghai crown, adding to her 2024 success. Danielle Kang remains the only other two-time champion, while Yin is the sole golfer representing the People’s Republic of China to have won this event. She also paced the field in greens hit, finding 55 of 72, and shared the week’s best birdie total with Amy Yang and Alison Lee at 18.
Choi, a 12-time KLPGA winner, has now made over 100 LPGA starts since 2022 without a victory. This was her fifth time holding or sharing the 54-hole lead, and she has not yet converted one. Yin’s seventh LPGA title leaves her three short of Shanshan Feng’s 10.
Yin’s home-soil win could strengthen interest in women’s golf in China, especially among young players who may see a local champion succeed on an international tour. Her back-to-back titles and family-and-friends setting may also boost event attendance, media attention, and sponsorship around the LPGA’s Shanghai stop. Choi’s near-miss may add narrative tension for fans, while the result may reinforce the tour’s growing competitiveness across Asia. These effects are possible, not guaranteed.
