Minnesota sends captain Spurgeon to IR, adds AHL reinforcements

Minnesota has placed captain Jared Spurgeon on injured reserve because of an upper-body issue, with the move backdated to Oct. 12. He has sat out the last two games and cannot return before Tuesday’s matchup in Edmonton. The Wild recalled Carson Lambos and Hunter Haight from AHL Iowa to fill roster spots.
Minnesota's captain is sidelined by an upper-body problem, and his IR designation dates back to Oct. 12. That rules him out through at least the Wild's Tuesday trip to Edmonton. Before this absence, the 36-year-old defenseman had appeared in all six games, producing one goal, four assists, a +4 rating, and about 22 minutes per night.
To cover his spot, Minnesota called up Carson Lambos and Hunter Haight from AHL Iowa. Lambos, 23, has two points in six games there this season; Haight, 22, has five. The Wild enter Sunday at 5-2-1 and host Columbus.
Spurgeon's absence may affect the Wild's on-ice performance and fan engagement in Minnesota, while giving younger call-ups a chance to gain NHL experience. For supporters and local businesses tied to game nights, a captain's injury could temper short-term excitement, though it may also spotlight depth and development. The broader sports conversation may again highlight player health and workload management, especially for an aging defenseman.
