Logan O’Connor set to return for Avalanche against Lightning
Colorado forward Logan O’Connor is expected to make his season debut Friday against Tampa Bay, coach Jared Bednar said. O’Connor has been on injured reserve with a lower-body injury and also spent time away from the team after his father’s death. The 30-year-old is in his ninth season with the Avalanche.
Colorado coach Jared Bednar said Monday that Logan O’Connor should suit up Friday versus Tampa Bay, marking his first appearance this season. The 30-year-old winger had been on injured reserve because of a lower-body issue, missing the last two exhibition contests and the opener. He also left the club temporarily after his father died, a loss announced Oct. 8.
O’Connor is in his ninth Avalanche season. Last season, hip surgery delayed his debut until March; he recorded two assists in 13 regular-season outings and added a goal and an assist in the playoffs. The undrafted Texas native has 105 career regular-season points and won the Stanley Cup in 2022.
O’Connor’s expected return may matter most to Avalanche teammates, coaching staff and fans, who could see a familiar depth forward rejoin the lineup after injury and a family loss. His situation may also resonate with people navigating grief or returning to work after bereavement, though the direct societal effect is likely limited to sports audiences and those following Colorado’s season.
