DeBrincat Hits 300 Goals as Detroit's Comeback Ends in Shootout
Alex DeBrincat tied Seattle 3-3 with 17 seconds left in regulation for his 300th NHL goal. Detroit had trailed 3-0 entering the third period but lost 4-3 in a shootout. DeBrincat reached the milestone in 705 games, the fourth-fastest among active American players.
DeBrincat’s late strike came on a power play with Detroit using an extra skater after pulling Daniil Tarasov. Lucas Raymond found him at the left post, and Todd McLellan noted that DeBrincat rarely misses from that spot. The goal and assist gave DeBrincat six goals and five assists in nine games.
Detroit’s rally began in the third with Viktor Arvidsson scoring at 6:25 and Raymond adding a power-play goal at 7:24. Seattle had built a 3-0 lead through Mackie Samoskevich, Ryker Evans and Brandon Montour, while Bobby McMann sealed the shootout in round four. Detroit is 3-3-3 and has points in five straight.
The milestone may resonate beyond Detroit because it gives fans a clear, positive hockey story amid the team’s off-ice Larkin trade saga. Younger players and American hockey followers could see DeBrincat’s pace to 300 as a benchmark, while Seattle supporters may focus on the shootout win. For Detroit’s market, the comeback point could sustain interest during a stretch of five straight games with points, though the shootout loss may temper enthusiasm.
