Ottawa Crowd Targets Tkachuk Family With Signs

Fans at Canadian Tire Centre brought homemade signs mocking Brady Tkachuk and his family during his return with Florida. One banner criticized Keith, Matthew and Brady Tkachuk in turn, while others used baby and little-brother jokes. The signs added to a hostile atmosphere that also included thrown jerseys.
The display included a jersey marked with a refund request, signs invoking a father and two brothers, and a pacifier-themed little-brother taunt. A hand-drawn sign showed a Panthers group in pink, and a Tkachuk sticker appeared in a washroom urinal.
The signs joined other hostile elements, including jerseys thrown onto the ice late in the game. Brady Tkachuk had said he intended to donate any jersey that landed.
The episode could affect athletes’ families and visiting players by turning a return game into a public family-focused spectacle. It may also shape how fans and teams view sign culture and thrown objects, since such displays can intensify crowd hostility and raise safety or cleanup concerns. The impact is likely limited to sports culture, but it may influence arena policies and player-family experiences.
