Tamburlini Takes Opening Lead at Women’s Indian Open

Chiara Tamburlini shot a 5-under 67 at DLF Golf & Country Club to lead the Hero Women’s Indian Open after round one. Playing her first Ladies European Tour event since July, she holds a one-stroke edge over Shannon Tan and Magdalena Simmermacher. Sara Kouskova is alone in fourth at 3 under.
Tamburlini, a 26-year-old Swiss player, owns three LET victories and topped the 2024 Order of Merit. Most of her 2026 schedule has been on the LPGA, where she is 106th in the Race to CME Globe; this week is her sixth LET appearance this season and her first since July.
Her 67 contained seven birdies and two bogeys, including early gains at Nos. 1, 2 and 4 and one more at the 17th. Tan, the Singaporean title defender, avoided any bogeys in her 68, while Simmermacher made birdies at the last two holes to equal her.
Tamburlini’s return and early lead could draw more attention to the Ladies European Tour and the Indian Open, potentially benefiting tournament visibility and sponsors. For fans in Delhi and young women golfers, seeing international players compete may strengthen interest in the sport. Tan’s title defence and Simmermacher’s form may also add narrative appeal, though one opening round is unlikely to transform participation or media coverage on its own.
