F1 teams bring upgrade packages to Austin

Several Formula 1 teams brought new components to the United States Grand Prix in Austin. Ferrari updated its floor, sidepod inlets and diffuser, while McLaren revised front and rear corner parts and its diffuser. Both teams' drivers cautioned that the upgrades may not produce immediate results.
At the 2026 United States Grand Prix in Austin, seven teams listed new parts in Friday’s FIA submissions: McLaren, Ferrari, Red Bull, Racing Bulls, Audi, Alpine and Cadillac. Ferrari’s package covered floor body and board, sidepod inlets and diffuser, aimed at more downforce plus steadier airflow toward the rear.
McLaren changed front and rear corner components and diffuser geometry to improve flow and load across speed ranges. Cadillac added floor fences and cooling louvres; with Colton Herta in FP1, it used an aero rake to gather data. Leclerc called Ferrari’s step modest, while Norris warned upgrades can be hard to fully exploit.
The upgrade race may influence how competitive the Austin weekend appears, affecting fans’ expectations and team staff workloads. A tighter or more unpredictable field could make races more engaging for viewers and sponsors. For Austin, the event may support local hospitality and travel spending during race week. Any technical lessons could eventually inform broader motorsport or automotive engineering, though the immediate societal impact is likely modest and indirect.
