Edmonton puts Levi on IR, adds Tomkins on emergency recall

Edmonton placed goaltender Devon Levi on injured reserve Friday and recalled Matt Tomkins from AHL Bakersfield under emergency conditions. Levi is 6-1-0 in seven appearances this season with an .887 save percentage and 3.11 goals-against average. Tristan Jarry is expected to start Saturday against Toronto.
Edmonton made the roster move Friday after Levi was absent from practice. Matt Tomkins, 32, comes up from Bakersfield on an emergency basis; he has eight AHL seasons (59-57-19, .903, 2.89) and six NHL appearances. Bob Stauffer reported Tristan Jarry will start Saturday versus Toronto.
Levi, a 2020 seventh-round Florida selection, has played 46 NHL games between Edmonton and Buffalo (23-18-2, .893, 3.26). His AHL work with Rochester spans 120 games (64-39-22, .914, 2.52), and he posted a .942 save percentage and 1.90 GAA in 66 NCAA games at Northeastern.
The move may mainly affect Edmonton’s short-term goaltending depth and the fans and teammates who rely on stable play during a strong start. If Levi’s absence extends, backup workload and AHL call-up logistics could shift, potentially influencing game outcomes and fantasy hockey followers. For Tomkins, an emergency recall could create a rare NHL opportunity; for supporters, it may add uncertainty around Saturday’s matchup, though Jarry’s expected start could limit immediate disruption.
