Hugo Opens Two-Shot Advantage at Reignwood Legends Championship

Jean Hugo fired a bogey-free 7-under 65 to take a two-shot lead after the first round of the Reignwood Legends Championship in Beijing. He eagled the par-5 2nd and added five birdies at Reignwood Pine Valley. Felipe Aguilar, Phillip Archer, Mark Brown and Maarten Lafeber share second at 5-under.
Hugo’s 65 was the day’s lowest round. He turned in 5-under after an eagle at the par-5 2nd and a birdie at the 3rd, then added two more birdies on the back nine, including the 18th. He said the course was difficult and windy during practice, making 70 seem a good daily target.
Aguilar, Archer, Brown and Lafeber share second at 67. Aguilar played his last eight holes in 5-under; Archer eagled the 13th but double-bogeyed the 17th; Brown made eight birdies; Lafeber eagled the 13th. Order of Merit leader Stephen Gallacher opened with 68.
Hugo’s fast start and the cluster of contenders could draw more attention to the Legends Tour, potentially benefiting host venues, sponsors, and Beijing’s golf tourism. Fans may find the close leaderboard compelling, while older players’ strong play could encourage recreational golfers and show the sport’s appeal across generations. Local businesses around Reignwood Pine Valley might see modest visitor interest, though the event’s direct social reach is likely limited compared with larger global tournaments.
