Hugo Captures Maiden Legends Tour Title in Beijing
Jean Hugo won the Reignwood Legends Championship at 13-under-par, three shots ahead of Matthew Cort. The South African carded a final-round 71 in strong winds to claim his first Staysure Legends Tour title. The win in his fifth tour appearance secured full playing rights through 2027.
Jean Hugo, a South African, had placed fifth at Qualifying School earlier in 2026, which left him without full status and reliant on limited starts. His triumph at Reignwood Pine Valley came in only his fifth Staysure Legends Tour event, and the resulting playing rights now run through 2027.
Hugo began the final day one ahead of Stephen Gallacher. Gusts near 40mph made scoring difficult. Matthew Cort’s 69 was the day’s only clean round, lifting him to second at 10-under. Jeev Milkha Singh, David Drysdale and Gallacher tied third at 6-under.
Hugo’s breakthrough may raise interest in senior golf among South African fans and Chinese spectators who attended or followed the Beijing event. It could also encourage veteran players who face limited starts, showing that a strong week can secure stability. Tournament organizers and sponsors may view the Reignwood success as evidence that Legends Tour events in newer markets can attract attention. For local golf communities, the event could bring short-term economic and recreational benefits, though its broader social reach is likely modest.
