Rahm Set for Abu Dhabi Debut at DP World Tour Play-Offs Opener
Jon Rahm will make his first appearance at the Abu Dhabi Aldar Championship, set for Yas Links from November 5-8. The event launches the DP World Tour Play-Offs, where the top 50 from a 70-player field advance to Dubai. Rahm has won three times in the UAE, all in Dubai, and the field includes defending champion Aaron Rai and Rory McIlroy, who is chasing an eighth Race to Dubai title.
Rahm’s Abu Dhabi debut will be his first competitive round in the emirate’s capital, despite three prior UAE victories. All three came at the Dubai season finale, including DP World Tour Championship wins in 2017, 2019 and 2022. He owns ten DP World Tour titles, five of them Rolex Series events.
At Yas Links, the top 50 from a 70-player Race to Dubai field will move on to Dubai. Aaron Rai defends after a playoff win over Tommy Fleetwood, while Rory McIlroy returns seeking an eighth Race to Dubai crown. Weekend passes begin at AED 75; Thursday and Friday entry costs nothing.
Rahm’s debut could draw extra attention to Abu Dhabi’s tournament and Yas Island hospitality, potentially benefiting local businesses, tourism and golf fans. Free early-week entry may broaden access for residents, while premium packages could serve wealthier visitors. For players, the playoff structure may heighten late-season pressure and fan interest, though actual social or economic effects remain uncertain.
