Capitals' Miroshnichenko Drawing Interest Around NHL

Elliotte Friedman reported that several NHL clubs are monitoring Capitals winger Ivan Miroshnichenko. The 22-year-old scored in his season debut against Montreal and is no longer waivers-exempt, making a minor-league assignment risky for Washington. The Capitals are deep at forward, which has limited his playing time.
Friedman, speaking on Sportsnet’s 32 Thoughts podcast, relayed that a source indicated several clubs are tracking the 22-year-old. The interest stems from a belief that he is NHL-capable; Washington’s forward depth has kept him out of the lineup. He dressed Wednesday because Pierre-Luc Dubois was ill.
In that debut, Miroshnichenko scored Washington’s second goal, drew two penalties, recorded a hit and a blocked shot in 10:01. A major penalty for his open-ice hit on Juraj Slafkovsky was overturned after review. He signed a two-year, $1.85 million extension last October, is no longer waivers-exempt, and has 14 points in 53 NHL games plus 101 in 141 AHL contests. Washington drafted him 20th overall in 2022.
If Washington trades or waives him, the Capitals’ forward mix and fan base could feel immediate effects, while another club may gain a young scorer. Miroshnichenko’s career trajectory, teammates competing for ice time, and Hershey’s roster may also be affected. For followers of league-wide player movement, the situation may add intrigue to Washington’s upcoming games, though any broader social impact is likely limited to sports audiences.
