Washington moves Pierre-Luc Dubois to IR, recalls Jonny Brodzinski
Washington placed Pierre-Luc Dubois on injured reserve because of an illness, retroactive to October 9. The Capitals recalled Jonny Brodzinski from AHL Hershey to fill the roster spot. Dubois has one goal and four points in four games this season.
Washington's move is retroactive to Oct. 9, the date of Dubois's most recent appearance, a 3-1 victory against the Rangers. The 28-year-old has opened the year with a goal and four points across four games, posting a plus-4 rating while averaging 17:06 of ice time. Last season, injuries limited him to 29 games and 19 points.
Brodzinski, 33, joins from AHL Hershey, where he had two goals and three assists in four games. He has played 264 NHL regular-season games, recording 33 goals and 71 points, plus four playoff appearances. Washington hosts New Jersey today at 1 p.m.
The Capitals' roster shuffle may matter most to Washington's players and fans, as Dubois's absence could test the team's forward depth during a competitive stretch. Brodzinski's recall could offer a short-term opportunity for a veteran while giving Hershey supporters a player to follow in the NHL. For followers of the sport, the situation may highlight how illness and injury can quickly alter lineup plans and playoff positioning.
