Jets Promote Yager While Morrissey Lands on IR
Winnipeg recalled forward Brayden Yager from the Manitoba Moose after he recorded nine points in six AHL games. The Jets placed Josh Morrissey on injured reserve retroactive to Oct. 7 because of an upper-body injury, and he is considered week to week. Morrissey was hurt when he collided with the boards against Colorado.
Winnipeg has added 21-year-old forward Brayden Yager from its AHL affiliate after he opened the season with five goals and four assists in six games. The 2023 first-round selection, taken 14th overall by Pittsburgh, recently netted an overtime winner against Texas, helping Manitoba achieve its strongest franchise start at 5-1-0-0.
In a matching roster move, defenseman Josh Morrissey was put on injured reserve, backdated to Oct. 7. His upper-body issue, initially labeled day to day, is now week to week. He was hurt late in the first period against Colorado after hitting the boards while trying to check T.J. Hughes. He has three assists in four games.
Morrissey’s absence may test Winnipeg’s defensive depth and could shift responsibilities onto other blueliners, potentially affecting the team’s early-season results. Yager’s promotion could give fans a glimpse of a young forward and may energize interest around the Jets and Manitoba Moose. For supporters and local businesses tied to game nights, short-term roster changes like these may alter expectations, attendance, and conversation, though the broader social effect is likely limited.
