Vegas moves Cormier to waivers, recalls Holtz
Vegas placed defenseman Lukas Cormier on waivers Wednesday; if he clears Thursday, he can be assigned to AHL Henderson. Cormier had been on the non-roster/injured list after an undisclosed training-camp injury and is coming off a 47-point AHL season. The Golden Knights also recalled forward Alex Holtz, who has eight points in five AHL games this season.
Cormier, 24, was put on waivers Wednesday by Vegas. A Thursday clearance would let the club send him to Henderson. He opened 2026-27 on the non-roster injured list because of an undisclosed injury from training camp. Last AHL season he recorded 47 points (8G, 39A), tied for sixth on Henderson, and added five points in six playoff games.
In 188 AHL regular-season appearances, he has 111 points (22G, 89A). His NHL resume includes two Vegas games in 2023-24 with one assist. His one-year two-way deal has an $850,000 NHL cap hit, $225,000 minor salary and $275,000 guaranteed. Vegas also recalled Alex Holtz, who has eight points in five AHL games this season after 28 NHL games last year.
For fans and players, this roster shuffle may matter mostly as a signal about organizational depth and opportunity. Cormier’s waiver status could affect his career path and Henderson’s blue line, while Holtz’s recall may create short-term NHL chances. Local hockey followers and fantasy managers might adjust expectations, but the broader social impact is likely limited to sports communities.
