San Jose's Wennberg to miss at least a week with upper-body issue

San Jose coach Ryan Warsofsky said Thursday that center Alex Wennberg will miss the rest of the team's road trip because of an upper-body injury. The 32-year-old sat out Tuesday's overtime win in Montreal and will be checked again once the Sharks return home. Wennberg has three assists in nine games this season.
Wennberg, an alternate captain, is week-to-week and will sit out San Jose’s final two road games, in Ottawa and Boston. He was re-evaluated after the team returns home. He missed Tuesday’s overtime victory in Montreal, with Ty Dellandrea entering the lineup, after playing a season-low 16:29 in Monday’s loss at Toronto.
The 32-year-old has three assists and a minus-three rating in nine appearances. San Jose signed him as a free agent from the Rangers in 2024 and later extended him through 2029 at a $6 million cap hit after he posted 55 points and a career-best 18 goals in 80 games last season.
For San Jose’s playoff push, Wennberg’s absence could test the team’s center depth and affect teammates, coaches, and fans following the club’s wild-card position. Fantasy hockey managers and bettors may also adjust expectations. More broadly, the news is a reminder of how upper-body injuries can disrupt a player’s season and a team’s stability, though the impact is likely confined to the sports community rather than wider society.
