Home Favorite Kapoor Holds Narrow Advantage Before Delhi Finale

Vani Kapoor will start the final round of the Hero Women’s Indian Open at 5 under par with a one-stroke lead. Shannon Tan and Pornanong Phatlum are tied for second behind the DLF member. Kapoor is trying to become only the second Indian winner, following Aditi Ashok in 2016.
Kapoor, 32, is a DLF Golf & Country Club member and has played this Delhi event as a professional roughly 14 or 15 times without previously entering the last round ahead. Her consecutive 69s have lifted her to five under, one clear of Tan and Phatlum. Tan, who is defending the title and topped the LET Order of Merit, carded 67 despite wrist discomfort; Phatlum has three victories in this event.
Aditi Ashok, in 2016, is still the sole Indian champion in the event’s 19-year run. Kapoor is among three Indians in the top 10: Pranavi Urs is tied fourth, two strokes back, and Tvesa Malik is tied eighth, four behind.
A home contender entering the final round could draw more Indian viewers and media attention to women’s golf, especially with several local players in the top 10. A Kapoor victory may encourage young athletes and club golfers who see a DLF member competing at the top, while increased visibility could benefit sponsors, event organizers, and grassroots programs. The outcome may also shape how the tournament is remembered locally, though its broader social effect would likely depend on sustained coverage beyond Sunday.
