Reimer Posts 35-Save Shutout, Becomes AHL's Oldest Since 2008

James Reimer, 38, stopped all 35 shots for Hartford in a 2-0 win over Providence on Friday. The AHL said it was the oldest goaltender shutout in the league since Wade Flaherty in 2008. Reimer joined the Wolf Pack on a tryout after New York's goaltending injuries led the Rangers to recall their planned AHL options.
Reimer’s milestone came at 38 years, 222 days, making him the oldest AHL goalie with a shutout since Wade Flaherty’s 2008 effort for Rockford at 40 years, 62 days. Hartford’s goals arrived late: Liam Greentree broke the deadlock in the third, and Carey Terrance added an empty-netter.
The start was Reimer’s first AHL appearance of the season after signing a tryout Oct. 15. New York’s crease crisis—Igor Shesterkin out for the season and Joonas Korpisalo unavailable—prompted recalls of the goalies Hartford expected to use. Reimer’s prior AHL win came Jan. 22, 2011, with Toronto, also a shutout; he now has five AHL shutouts.
The result may give Hartford a steady veteran option while the organization manages its goaltending shortage, and it could offer Reimer another path to an NHL opportunity if injuries persist. For fans, it adds a notable age milestone to a season already shaped by roster disruptions; for the Rangers, it may ease pressure on a depleted depth chart. It is unlikely to change broader hockey economics, but could affect how teams view experienced tryout goalies in emergencies.
